Intresting

Can't say I've seen anything quite like this attempted before, so that's good. The game itself is easy to play and get used to, which is nice. The menu is decent, though I must say I was a little lost where the play button was for a moment, lol. One thing you could do is not have the text already in the box, deleting it would make the person lose a little concentration, lol, you could just have it as a graphic and put it above the input box and have it say "Put your answer below" or something.

The time is a little too much at the opening bit, but eh, it's helpful for later on, though wouldn't you need to have one number for level 1? Since that would be one bit of information. Oh well I guess, it's pretty well made and the audio is nice too.

Thanks for the review! I like 7/10's, lol. Thanks for the idea with the text above the text box thing! I'll do that if my other plan doesn't work. In the next one I'm taking everyone's input into consideration.

I love the Review Request Club.

Could be Better

Well the first thing is the opening, it takes too long, a skip button would be nice to have, also the fact that you have to start all over again when you make a mistake, it makes it very repetative and dull to have to watch everything again, some more choices that lead to alternate endings would be good. Some of the graphics and animations are okay and the sound effects too. Well some, others seem out of place.

The voice could be better too, like get some people to voice act for you, it would make it much more intresting. Needs more checkpoints definatly though, it's very boring to have to start from a while back, the viewer could lose intrest in this. It's a good idea but poorly executed.

Not Great

The first thing I noticed was the fact that the buttons on this where kind of hard to click, you have to click on the text and can't click the space between letters. Have some pactice on making better buttons. The ease of use of this is good but the actual point is kind of eh, it's not really that much fun and although some are mildly amusing, none of them are really that funny, nothing more than smile worthy.

The lack of animation and anything much to do is a real let down, I was expecting something more of an error creation game or something. There isn't really anything that sticks out to me on this. Just seems too simple and not very entertaining. Keep trying though.

This is an old flash, and the 08 version will have loads of improvements

Hmm

The layout of this to start with is pretty poor, the text isn't in the most readable font, try something simple and don't use a background with an image, all the circles are fine but don't use an image. The wording is also quite hard to understand, I have made three diffrent kinds of preloaders in the past and I could not see where this was going, it's hard to picture and hard to carry out.

You need to have clear instructions on this, what you have written sounds very rushed and seems to lack any reason, you have put more time in the looks and the audio than the actual tutorial. The audio is fine, but I don't see the need for three songs, one song and a mute button would be fine, concentrate on the tutorial next time.

Contrary to your comment, I worked equally as hard on the tutorial in general than the image. I wanted to add my own style and my tutorial is not the first tutorial to have 3 songs on it. I have good sight, so the text didn't bother me, and I didn't think that it'll bother others. You have gravely misunderstood the concept, intentions and otherwise point of the flash. But you are intitled to youropinion and I respect and acknowledge that.
Thanks for your review.

Very Basic

A button is something that is quite simple to make, I realise this is for beginners but the first thing that hits me is the navigation and layout of this, to be honest I think it is quite poor and if not a little intimidating to someone who would be new. I would suggest keeping it simple and having one fram for each part, includ a screenshot on that frame as oppose to having to click a button to see it.

You wrote something about buttons, nice but maybe a little pointless, that could have been mentioned on the menu. Also the actionscript can be done diffrently, it might be worth mentioning Frame Lables with the gotoAndPlay script.

The blocks of text aren't broken down to well or in a very easy to read layout, they could be presented better in my opinion, the whole presentation could be improved with some nice looking buttons, a nice background, just something more plesent to look at really and some work on working and details would be nice. Good luck writting future tutorials.

Phantox responds:

Well I made the screen shots on different frames because if I made them all in 1 frame it could be hard for the reader to understand what they have to do. I thought it would be easier for the user to click on a button when they didn't understand on what to do.

Anyways, thanks for the review.

Alright

Well the first thing that strikes my attention is the huge filesize, I mean it would be nice to see a smaller size, it makes the wait a little less and probably gives more of a chance of people actually watching this. After waiting for the load to finish, I was a little disappointed by the lack of content, it seemed to be just images with some text.

This could be improved in many ways, such as a search function or have the list at the beginning of the flash, maybe some more details and such, though I can't see antimation being needed in something like this, although it could be a little more attractive. It's okay for an idea but could really be expanded a lot.

Intresting

I didn't like how the menu took a while to load, that was kind of silly, if you have the animation going and the buttons working at the same time, that would have been good. Though the instructions where quite simple to follow and had a back button too, which was nice, so points for the instructions, lol.

As for the gameplay, well it was okay and the graphics are very newgroundish, would have been better if you drew them but still good all the same. Though the game itself does get a little repetative and kind of hard on the hand after a while, some power ups like sheilds or a turret would be nice here and would make it a little easier. I isn't hard to learn which is a good thing about this game, but I do think it could do with a little more.

Objection responds:

Well, frankly, my drawing abilities are not much better than a 6-year-old's.
I might consider your thing about shields, but I don't really know what Newgrounds icon(s) could be used as turrets.

Better

This one is slightly better than the first one in that the layout is much easier to navigate than the first, but it still lacks a lot in terms of looks. Although I think that the questions here are still good, which is nice to see and once clicked you can see the answer. Although getting a wrong answer takes you back to the preloader, this is one of the things I'm not keen on, you could get given the right answer then sent back to the first question, as a method of learning.

In terms of looks, this has improved, but a nice consistant looking background is what this needs, something attractive and the images you have put on could be done in a size that doesn't hurt its quality, resize it in Photoshop or something simler, this would improve it a little. Just really work on the looks and effects a wrong answer has. Keep working at it though :)

there will be a constant bacround in my next one... dont you worry...

Alright

Well for a quiz it is alright, a range of questions that are diffrent from each other, not sure how hard it would be to have come up with them but they where pretty good. Although there are quite a few things to improve on here, the first is the filesize, would have been nice if it wasn't some big, need to export at lower settings there.

The buttons could be better too, I mean you could have a button for the letter, so you would click A if that was your answer, the way it was layed out here made that pretty hard to work out at first. Another point is the way it looks, it does its job but it isn't very attractive to look at, add a nice consistant background, borders around pictures keeping them the same size and nice looking answers with a good looking button.

Hopefully you can take this advice for future quizs, obviously not for number two since you have already submitted that, but just in future. The questions are good though.

im putting the finishing touches on my studio nightbird quiznow... so ill apply some of those tips to that

Nice game

It's a good game, it's not hard to play so with it eing easy to learn is a good point, the instructions actually made it look harder than it actually is though, lol. The graphics where decent, that's to be said, but the pasangers just being circles seems alittle dull, but nevermind :)

It was abit of a slow moving game for what I played, so it isn't very adictive, doesn't make me want to play it for a long time, so that's somthing that could be worked on.

This could have defiantly been expanded alittle more with afew more power ups and even some negative things that make bad changes, you know? Just to add varity to the game.

Otherwise, everything else seems pritty decent to me :)

Good job.

Thanks for the quality review!

Sorry about the instructions. It's just that some people will have trouble with it no matter what so we usually try to provide in-depth instructions otherwise we get people saying "omg nothing happens when I try to shoot"

I'm starting to think we should have started it out with 3 trains allowed instead of 2, but we kind of wanted to make the first few levels tutorial like because people are still learning the game.

Negative powerups would have been cool.

Anyway, glad you liked, and thanks again for the review.

This water is making my head feel really funny, what did you put in it?
